Internet Growth

November 19, 2007

I know that the Internet is the wave of the future. Nearly 80% of Americans use the Internet for an average of eleven hours per week according to a recent poll.  With all the Internet growth occurring in America alone, I can’t help but wonder what this can mean to me.

I was reading an article on Yahoo in a segment called People of the Web, this particular story was about a young teen who became a millionaire doing what she loved on the web, designing.  This leads me to believe that its definitely not too late to start a business on the web, in fact this is the perfect time to start a business on the web.

The way I see the growth of the Internet is that only eighty percent of Americans use the Internet, so how much of the rest of the world is using the Internet? Most of the world probably doesn’t have Internet access, that just means that the World Wide Web will continue to grow and so will the profits, if I start a business on the web.

The Power of Poise

November 4, 2007

You ain’t gonna get to the top unless you’ve got a little poise. -Bobby Bowden

Bobby Bowden is my favorite college football coach of all time.  I find these words that he spoke to be very true and important to put to work.  The way that you present your self will determine your future.  If you always present yourself with your head down all the time, your hand wobbles when you shake someones hand and can’t look someone in the eye when talking to them, you’ll realize that people won’t put you in roles to manage others or even put in higher positions. This shows a insecurity about yourself that people see.

Body language tells a lot about who you are.  It is important to always carry yourself as someone who cares and has respect for oneself.  If you care for yourself then you will be able to care for other things.  Though you may believe you can still manage other roles, those who oversee you see this as a disability to the team.

Persistence

November 2, 2007

The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie–diliberate, contrived, and dishonest–but the myth–persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
-John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Its funny to watch people sometimes.  For instatnce in a store line there is the kid who wants the candy at the register.  The parent tells the child “no” and the child begins to  cry because they want that candy so bad. The next thing you know, the same parent will cave in and give in to what the crying child wants just to make him/her stop crying.  That parent was’nt strong enough to stay commited to his/her goal.  This is like so many of us.

Persistence will make us or break us.  Our goals cause us to strive for something then it seems like everything around us stops what its doing just to try to make us quit our objective.   Maybe its not your children, maybe its a co-worker or it may be a situation that is unpreventable.  It seems like nothing wants us to win.  But reading about our fore Fathers and other great people that are here now, I know persistence is worth the irritation in the end.
